Father, Son and the Holy war

Without the knowledge of background or importance, I happened to watch the documentary 'Father, Son and the Holy war' by Anand Patwardhan on DD national network.

Even as I was watching, I sense an unavoidable grip to the narration and continued to watch.
The documentary was about the communal violence in India , captured from the angle of social concepts like Matriarchy, Sati, Religions.

It shows how these things are cultivated from an early stage of a man's life to built his psyche which leads to destroying peace around him.

It has a true-to-life depiction and has no comments in between. It just tells the truth and left the viewers thinking.

The comments from a Muslim man about the inferiority of women by birth was like a slap on the face. He was damn sure that women are inferior as 'God has made them like that'. He was speaking of physical strength here.

The psyche of small boys who runs after 'macho man' and their views about girls only gives the painful revelation of how the minds of children are being damaged.

It brings out well 'How the male psyche is being groomed from childhood to get ready 'to slash or to get slashed' for his stupid ideology'.

The woman who showed a picture of 'sati' completely believes that the sati pyre was lit by God from above. There were no answers to the queries of the interviewer about how God can be caught in a camera.

The documentary captures the street vendors selling the medicines for male infertility in a so-natural manner. Highlights how this happens to be the main survival reason for men.

It was heartening to know about the 11-year battle, the documentary-maker has to go through to show his creation to the people, to whom it really matters.

This documentary brings forth the harsh reality of the politicians using religious beliefs for their use. Must watch for every Indian.

Women's life!

I came across this article in NewYorkTimes sometime back and think it'll be a perfect starting post with my comment on it. I totally agree with Judith Warner on Domestic Disturbances.

Whichever part of the world U r living in, this is the same story. We may thought of West as the most modern in gender-related issues. But, this is not true.

Domestic work is always expected to be done by women. I don't think men are forbidden to do any household work. It's just the Social conditioning for centuries that keep them away.

A general opinion on this is that women do the house-keeping work better.

Why not??

This is the only thing they've been doing for centuries. Whatever work u do to a larger extent of time, u tend to do it better. It's not that, only women are good at doing that.

Every man can become good house-keepers. Only they've to start doing that!!!!

Anyways, this is not starting to happen. Only when one generation of children watch their father helping with their moms in chores, which are typically labelled as women-oriented, they'll also think of doing that.

But , I think that is a long way to go!!!!!
